Just thought I would take some time out to tell you guys why I am interested in mosaics and illustration …. I try to draw illustrations of things which are really important to me, for example animals and nature, and the environment. Likewise the mosaics I produce I try to convey something of my love of animals and the environment. Wherever possible I am using recycled materials, and I try to find out as much as possible about how the materials I use are produced.
I feel very angry about the casual destruction of the environment in the UK , and every where else internationally, and the assumption that our goal as an economy should be ever increasing consumption of whatever we can get our hands on.
I believe that we should be looking towards finding ways of living our lives with less consumption, rather than trying to race with China to build more airports, have more trains, and generally use up as much resources as we can.
If you look at the way small countries like Greece and Scotland are coming out of their economic troubles, you will see they are actively encouraging small enviromentally sustainable businesses, and this is building communities and generating energy and healthy living styles. Everybody has to live of course, but there is no reason why our lives have to mean destruction of everyone else’s environment.

Finally got around to hanging my owl mosaic on the wall….
Cut up some old prints and made some linocut printed business cards out of them. Accidentally shoved the linocut cutter in my hand at one point.
